A huge section of scaffolding has collapsed outside the Royal Free Hospital, as strong winds batter the capital.

Approximately 200sqm of scaffolding fell opposite the hospital in Hampstead, north London, just before 3pm.

The scaffolding had stretched from ground floor to third floor level, the London Fire Brigade said.

A spokesman added: "Surrounding buildings have been evacuated as a precaution and a cordon is in place."
